Hi, everyone! I’m Kelly, the newest addition to the library team here at Touro College Bay Shore. I am a Long Island native and have only lived off of the Island for a few years while attending college at SUNY New Paltz. I graduated Cum Laude from Dowling College where I majored in Communications, with a focus on Media Studies, and minored in Photography.
From a young age, a love of reading was instilled within me and this is a passion/hobby of mine that has never wavered. From topics and content ranging from true crime to fantasy, to biographies, I am always looking for new reading material that strikes my interest. No matter where I go, I always have a book with me. Whether it’s one from my ever-growing physical collection at home, my Kindle, or a book borrowed from my local public library, I make it a point to ensure that I never have one of those, “I should have brought a book with me” moments. Those are the worst!
In my spare time, I enjoy working with animals and I volunteer my time at a local animal sanctuary caring for goats, ducks, sheep, chickens, alpacas and an assemblage of other wonderful creatures. It’s hard, dirty work but so incredibly rewarding. I am also a devoted Cat Mom to a male tabby who is a complete and total momma’s boy, which is admittedly my own fault for spoiling him so much. In addition to my love of reading and animals, I am also a huge cinema and theatre lover, a board game/tabletop game enthusiast, a trivia nerd and traveler who lives a vegan lifestyle.
I truly love introducing people to new things and helping others acquire knowledge in order to reach their goals. I personally couldn’t agree more with this line from one of my all-time favorite book series, the Harry Potter series, “When in doubt, go to the library.” I hope that the students here at Touro feel that way too and always feel welcome to ask for assistance when they need it. That is what we’re here for!
