On June 16th the Library Staff semi-annual full-day meeting was held at the Brooklyn, Avenue J campus. Librarians and staff from the campuses at Harlem, Middletown, New York Medical College and Bay Shore joined us for a most informative meeting.
Librarians Jamie Saragossi, Philip Papas, and Chelsea DeGlopper discussed the wide reception that the Touro Library Blog has received and displayed graphs showing how usage has increased. Chelsea and Carrie Levinson also encouraged the continued use of LibGuides and relayed positive feed-back from staff and students alike.
For the first time Zoom video-conferencing was employed to connect with Beth Chamberlin, Head of Technical Services Touro Law School Library, in Central Islip, NY. Beth demonstrated “Sierra,” the new circulation system, and answered numerous questions. Using Zoom was an exciting first for many of the staff.
After a lunch break, a representative from EBSCO (one of the library’s vendors) discussed the EBSCO eBook Academic subscription, which contains over 134,000 titles. Touro now has a total of over 300,000 eBooks from a variety of vendors. Many university libraries, including Touro, are increasing their collections by purchasing eBooks.
Dr. Franklin Steen, Vice President of Technology, spoke on the future of technology in the libraries and how advances in technology are being applied throughout Touro. Knowing that we were displaying “pet photos” he also brought a picture of his cat to join in on the fun.
The meeting ended with a video presentation of staff pets and a group picture of the staff.
